PEACE CC News
December 2022

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE:
Editorial: Defining Hunger in America in 2022 by Maeson Wagner

- - - - - - - - - -

THIS MONTH's GOOD READ(S): I’ve included the link to this month's best reads on amazon.com, because it’s easy to find the books; but if possible, see about buying your books from a local bookseller… they may be a little more expensive, but you’ll be benefiting the local community…

THIS MONTH'S ENTERTAINMENT: Remember the classic movie, "A Christmas Story," from 1983? You know, the movie starring Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin & Melinda Dillon, that takes place in the 1940s? It's about a young boy named Ralphie Parker, who attempts to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa Claus that a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift? Well, the sequel, "A Christmas Story Christmas" is out and this movie follows the now-adult Ralphie as he returns to the house on Cleveland Street to give his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had as a child, reconnecting with childhood friends, and reconciling the passing of his Old Man. I'm looking forward to seeing it! How 'bout you?

PEACE COMMUNITY CHAPEL'S 8TH ANNUAL COAT DRIVE FOR THE AREA HOMELESS
We are coming to the end of our 8th ANNUAL COAT DRIVE FOR THE AREA HOMELESS, with just a few days to go; but, you still have time to donate, if you'd like. Our donation deadline is Sunday, Dec. 4!

Last year, because of generous donations like yours, Peace CC was able to purchase 611 new coats for the residents of several area shelters, and we're hoping to donate a lot this year, as well!

Our goal this year is to meet or surpass that mark! Remember, you'll have til Sunday, DECEMBER 4 to donate!! If you’d like to donate, you can do it in a couple ways:

- click on the "Donate" button to securely donate on our PayPal page; or

- go to paypal.me/peaceccog; or

- send a check, made payable to “Peace Community Chapel,” to 36 Arcadia Rd, P O Box 506; Old Greenwich, CT 06870 (please write "Coats" in the Memo section of your check)

Please note: we are only taking monetary donations.

If you know someone you think might like to help out with our efforts, please forward this email to them! Remember, our coat drive runs from NOW til Sunday, 12/4!

Thank you, in advance, for considering to donate!

PEACE CC JOINS BRIDGEPORT RESCUE MISSION'S #GREATTHANKSGIVINGPROJECT!
On Tuesday, October 25, PCC took part in helping to supply Bridgeport Rescue Mission with food for their #GreatThanksgivingProject. This year, Bridgeport Rescue Mission is aiming to serve more than 7,000 families in 6 different cities in Connecticut area! We were able to donate about 300lbs of food, including stuffing, gravy, green beans & corn, cranberry cocktails, sweet potatoes -- nearly all the fixins for Thanksgiving!

If you'd like to get involved in future fundraisers or activities in support of PCC and other organizations in lower Fairfield County, just send us a message! To find out more about our 'goings on' here at PCC, here's our latest newsletter!

A great big THANK YOU to all our donors, who made this possible!!

PEACE CC SUPPORTS UKRAINE RELIEF
Peace CC has supported the Ukraine Relief Effort by donating to World Central Kitchen, founded and run by Chef
José Andrés. We also managed to donate 1000 pair of socks (men & women) to front line soldiers, as well.

If you'd like to help the Ukrainian Relief Effort, please consider supporting WCK.org or any number of other Relief agencies!

LOVE LAUNDRY
We are asking people to collect spare change (especially quarters!) and either donate them to PCC or to donate them directly to a local laundromat, so that customers can use them to help do their laundry. In these trying times, any little bit helps - plus, #kindness is always a good thing!

DONATING TO FOOD BANKS & FOOD PANTRIES
A lot of people live with food insecurity, and, with rising inflation, food banks and pantries are even more depleted! If you are fortunate enough to have extra resources, I hope you'll consider donating either money or dry goods to a food bank or your local food pantry. What a blessing you'll be to those in need! Also, if you've been following the crisis in Ukraine/Russia, you know how much the Ukrainian people need help. Please consider making a donation to Ukrainian relief organizations, like UkraineRelief or World Central Kitchen. Peace.

HATS HELPING HUMANITY: CALLING ALL KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS!
Our resident knitters knitted 360 hats this year! We also enlisted the help of some of the students at Greenwich Academy in Greenwich with our project, and we donated those hats, to the folks at the Beth-El Shelter (Milford) and the New Covenant Center (Stamford)!! If you're a knitter and would like to help out by knitting a few hats, please contact Pastor Don at 203.726.0014. I'll put you in contact with Pam and she can tell you all about it!
